Cancellation flows are designed to be reassuring, but a “you’re all set” screen only tells you the request went through. What you actually care about is whether the money stops leaving your account — and that shows up on your statement, not in an email.
What to check, and when
- Note the merchant name and the amount as it appears on your statement.
- Note your renewal date — the charge should not appear after it.
- After your next billing date passes, look for that charge on the new statement.
- Confirm across a full cycle. For a monthly plan, one clean month; for an annual plan, you will not see the proof until the next yearly date, so set a reminder.
If the charge appears anyway
- Check whether you cancelled in the right place (app store vs website vs the merchant directly).
- Look for a second, separate subscription with the same company.
- Contact the merchant with the date you cancelled and ask them to stop and, if appropriate, refund it.
