Cancel a subscription

How to cancel an Apple subscription

Apple bills many subscriptions on behalf of other apps, and lists them all on a single Subscriptions screen. When Apple is the biller you cancel there — not inside the app itself. That same screen is the fastest 60-second audit of what you are paying for.

First: where are you billed?

Search your email for “receipt from Apple”. If a subscription is on an Apple receipt, Apple bills it and you cancel it in Apple’s settings below. If it is not, the app or website bills you directly — cancel there instead. A subscription on a family member’s Apple Account has to be cancelled by that person.

Step-by-step

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap “Subscriptions”.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap “Cancel Subscription” (you may have to scroll down). If there is no cancel button, the subscription is already cancelled or is not billed by Apple.

On a Mac

  1. Open the App Store app and click your name in the sidebar.
  2. Click “Account Settings” (you may be asked to sign in).
  3. Scroll to “Subscriptions” and click “Manage”.
  4. Find the subscription and click “Edit”, then “Cancel Subscription”.

In a web browser

  1. Go to your Apple account’s subscriptions page and sign in.
  2. Select the subscription and choose to cancel it.

Common mistakes that leave you still paying

  • Deleting the app. Removing an app never cancels the subscription Apple is billing.
  • Looking for a cancel button inside the app when Apple is the biller — the control is in Apple’s Settings, not the app.
  • Not checking whether a family member’s Apple Account holds the subscription.

Questions

How do I know if Apple is billing me or the app is?
Search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”. A subscription that appears on an Apple receipt is billed by Apple and cancelled in your Apple subscription settings. If it never appears there, the provider bills you directly and you cancel with them.
Can I see all my subscriptions in one place?
Yes. Settings → your name → Subscriptions lists every subscription Apple bills for you, active and expired, on one screen. It is the quickest way to find something you forgot you were paying for and cancel it on the spot.
Can I get a refund after cancelling?
Cancelling stops future charges but does not automatically refund the current period. If you believe a charge was a mistake, you can request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; whether it is granted is Apple’s decision.
Does cancelling take my access away right away?
No. An Apple-billed subscription keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, then it stops renewing.
