Cancel a subscription
How to cancel Audible
Audible is usually cancelled from the website — but if you signed up inside an app, it has to be cancelled where you signed up. Here is each path, and what happens to the books you already own.

First: where are you billed?
If you started your membership on Audible.com, cancel on the website. If you started it inside the Audible app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple bills you — cancel in your Apple subscriptions. If you started it in the Android app through Google Play, cancel in Google Play. When in doubt, check which company sends your receipt.
Step-by-step
On the Audible website (most memberships)
- Sign in at audible.com on a computer or phone browser.
- Select your name in the top navigation, then choose “Account Details”.
- Open “Membership details”.
- Select the “Cancel membership” link.
- Select “Continue” through the confirmation screens until you reach the final confirmation.
- Check for the cancellation email — your “Membership details” page should now show the membership as cancelled.
Access continues until the end of the current billing period; you are not refunded for the current period.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap “Subscriptions”.
- Tap the Audible subscription, then tap “Cancel Subscription”.
The Audible website will not show a cancel option for an Apple-billed membership.
If you subscribed through Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
- Tap your profile icon, then “Payments & subscriptions” → “Subscriptions”.
- Tap Audible, then “Cancel subscription”.
Common mistakes that leave you still paying
- Deleting the Audible app — that does nothing to the billing.
- Cancelling on the website when Apple or Google is actually the biller, so the charge keeps coming.
- Assuming your library disappears. Titles you bought with credits or money stay in your library after you cancel; only unused credits and Plus Catalog listens go away.
- Not recognizing the charge. On a statement it can read as “Audible” or as an Amazon line, which is part of why it is one of the most-forgotten subscriptions.
Questions
- Do I keep my audiobooks after I cancel Audible?
- Yes. Books you bought with credits or a payment method stay in your library permanently. Unused credits are forfeited at the end of your final billing cycle, and titles you were listening to from the Plus Catalog become unavailable unless you buy them.
- Can I pause Audible instead of cancelling?
- Often, yes. Audible offers a pause option that stops billing for a set number of months while keeping your account and library, which can be a better fit than cancelling outright if you just want a break. The pause control is in the same Membership details area as cancellation.
- Does cancelling stop the charge immediately?
- No. Your membership stays active until the end of the billing period you have already paid for, then it does not renew. You are not refunded for the current period.
