Cancel a subscription

How to cancel YouTube Premium

YouTube Premium is cancelled from your memberships page — unless you signed up through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or a mobile carrier, in which case you cancel with them. Here is each path.

First: where are you billed?

If you signed up on youtube.com or in the YouTube app on Android, cancel on the memberships page below. If you signed up in the YouTube app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple bills you — cancel in your Apple subscriptions. If you signed up through a mobile carrier, cancel through the carrier.

Step-by-step

On a computer (web)

  1. Go to youtube.com and sign in.
  2. Click your profile picture, then “Purchases and memberships” (or go straight to youtube.com/paid_memberships).
  3. Find your membership and choose “Continue to cancel”.
  4. Pick a reason if asked, then confirm with “Yes, cancel”.

Your benefits continue until the end of the billing period; you will not be charged again unless you re-subscribe.

In the YouTube app (Android)

  1. Tap your profile picture, then “Paid memberships”.
  2. Tap the membership you want to cancel.
  3. Tap “Continue to cancel”, choose a reason, tap “Next”, then “Yes, cancel”.

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap “Subscriptions”, tap YouTube Premium, then “Cancel Subscription”.

Common mistakes that leave you still paying

  • Cancelling on the web when you actually subscribed through Apple — the web page cannot cancel an Apple-billed membership.
  • Confusing the free YouTube account with the paid membership. Cancelling Premium does not delete your account or history.
  • Expecting the charge to stop mid-cycle — access and billing run to the end of the current period.

Questions

Will I lose my playlists or history if I cancel YouTube Premium?
No. Cancelling Premium only ends the paid benefits (ad-free, background play, downloads, YouTube Music Premium). Your account, playlists, subscriptions, and history are unaffected.
I cancelled but Premium still works — is that a problem?
No. That is expected. Your membership keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then it stops renewing.
